College Access Arts Program (CAAP) to support educators, students and families by improving test scores, student preparedness and access to funding for higher education.
Creating and mounting theatrical productions provides students with practical and hands on opportunities to reinforce and expand their skill sets in variety of academic areas.
In the spring of 2011 the artists of Theatre Double will work with select area students in a ten-week, 120-hour process the students to develop an original hour long theatrical presentation. The confidence they gained in creating an outstanding original play will help to fuel their success in other realms of their academic and social lives.
Students will achieve demonstrable improvements in their English Language skills, as well as aiding them in their understanding of creative writing and theatre production. Addtionally they will receive valuable experience that will aid them during the college admissions process. The goal of achieving a college degree will be reinforced through mentoring by professional artists and members of the community. Students will learn practical real world work skills. The program will not be limited just to those young people interested in the arts. Students will also learn real world practical skills in marketing, publicity, development, set construction, web design and historical research.
The Langston Hughes: An American Celebration program consists of a professional musical production, related educational materials and curriculum. These materials include lesson plans, arts activities, arts workshops and support materials created in collaboration with working educators. The educational component of the program supports the New York State and Pennsylvania State Educational Standards in grades five through twelve.
This program provides educators with a cost effective way of improving literacy skills, while giving students a visceral understanding of one of this country’s great men of letters and the important historical times in which he lived.
Theatre Double has a proven history of creating new theatrical work that in the words of New York Theatre critic Brad Bradley Reach Contemporary ears with sharpness and strength. As part of the company's continued effort to support the educational infrastructure of the New York City and the Philadelphia Metropolitan regions Theatre Double Repertory Company has created several programs to improve young people’s academic and social development through exposure and participation in the Fine and Performing Arts.
